I recently went to my first show at Music Millennium. The space is small and the sets are short. The size of the show is similar to that of a coffee shop. You get to see the artist up-close and personal, which is great (I'm pretty sure Meiko made eye contact with everyone in audience).
I got there earlier than I probably needed to, but it more

(Review of Thao with the Get Down Stay Down) How does someone so small have so much energy? I was dragging when someone encouraged me to see Thao with the Get Down Stay Down. As tired as I was, once she came on stage, I couldn't help but bounce along with her. The energy is contagious! The songs are very catchy, to say the least and the Thompson brothers do a a great job keeping up with more (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Venue review of La Tazza Fresca) This is a perfect example of music scene in Austin. In Austin, it seems that any restaurant, cafe, or nearly any other establishment thinks they can put in a small stage and tada - they have themselves a music venue. Tazza Fresca is truly a coffeehouse. It just happens to be a coffeehouse that allows some local musicians to play in the corner more (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Noon Tunes Concert Series If you are fortunate enough to have time in the middle of the day to enjoy a noon time concert, you should definitely make your way to Pioneer Square. Living up to the nickname of "Portland's Living Room," Pioneer Square is the perfect setting for these shows. The people watching is great, and there is plenty of space to sit or dance. more (2) votes | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Review of Zilker Hillside Theater) I have seen two great shows here in the past. We are very lucky to have an opportunity to see good musical theater for free in the park. The Hillside Theater provides a great setup for the show. All of the seating area is on a hill with a good incline, making the stage easy to see from many angles. Please be considerate and bring a blanket more (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of July 4th Concert and Fireworks! The best way to spend the 4th of July. I loved seeing the fireworks at Zilker and I am sure they Auditorium Shores overlooking Lady Bird Lake will be even better. Come early and bring a blanket and a picnic. Pack lots of water. This is Austin, Texas after all. Parking is sure to be a pain. It looks like there wont be the usual shuttles, so carpool and/or ride the regular bus routes to get there. Review of Hartman Concert Park at the Long Center I have not been to this concert series, but my father walked over there from his hotel during a recent visit. He had mixed reviews. The concert was nice, but he was disappointed by the setup. According to him, the orchestra was on a stage coming off of the Long Center. The audience was on the lawn below. Because the orchestra was on a higher more (2) votes | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Seth Walker I saw Seth Walker at Central Market last week. He provided some great dancing music! (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Venue review of Momo's) Momo's has become one of the great places to see music in Austin. I love Americana and folky music, so Momo's always fits the bill. With nearly four shows a night, you are bound to find a new artist to fall in love with. Parking has become easier, too. (2) votes | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Broken Spoke With all the urban development in Austin these days, it is easy to forget you are in Texas. Unless you walk into the Broken Spoke. The Broken Spoke is nice. They have good, local country, down-home music for the good ole boys. Unless you come on Tuesday, be prepared for a hefty cover charge (around 10 bucks usually) The atmosphere is what more (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Stubb's Bar-B-Q I used to go to Stubb's all the time when KASE 101 held the New Face Showcase there. I don't go as often anymore, but I have a great time when I do. The inside venue has a good floor space and a balcony. If you are early and luck enough to get a spot right by the stage, you can practically touch the artists. The outside venue also has a great more (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Irie Bean Coffee Bar The only time I have been to Irie Bean, it was raining. A show that should have been outside was inside. I am sure the show would have been completely different. As it was, the inside was too small to support a music show. It is a coffeehouse, so people are bound to chat during the music. Since it was so small and we were so close to the band, more Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Shady Grove The Shady Grove is was not originally designed to be a music venue. Unplugged at the Grove, though, is always a good time. The chairs are too close together, the lawn doesn't allow for much visibility, and the parking is a pain. The fact that despite all that people come in such large numbers is a testament to the atmosphere and the musical talent. (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Ruta Maya Woah. Ruta Maya was not anything like what I expected. I recently went to the venue to attend an AmeriCorps benefit. It is so much larger than I thought! Unlike your typical coffeehouse, the space and the stage are very big. In fact, the stage dominates the room. This is not the type of place where you go to work on the laptop while listening more (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Freddie's Place Just when I think I am tired of Austin, I come here and I am reminded about what makes Austin special. Sitting outside and relaxing while a local band plays under the large trees is a great way to spend a summer afternoon. (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Venue review of Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon) Ginny's is an amazing and unique experience in Austin. It is a small (very, very small) place that gets packed every Sunday. It has the feel of a small town Texas bar. It is hard to believe it is in the middle of Austin. I took my father here one Sunday afternoon. We were able to see a great Dale Watson show for free! Review of Southpaw Jones Thursday nights at the Triangle with Matt the Electrician and Southpaw Jones has become a bit of a tradition for me. Together they put on a great show. They have a great mix of traditional and humorous songs. Every week, an audience member can give them a topic, any topic, and the following week they will have a great song about it. I love it. Review of Bob Schneider When I first heard Bob Schneider, I thought there was too much hype surrounding him. However, the more I heard, the more I liked. He has a versatile style and is making waves around the country. Be sure to see one of his shows now, while you can. Luckily, there are many opportunities to see him around town. But, go soon. You never know when he is going to become too big for our little town. (2) votes | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Venue review of Zilker Park) What is not to love about concerts at Zilker Park? Zilker Park is the home to the ACL festival, but also hosts a variety of other great concerts and festivals throughout the year. Blues on the Green brings awesome talent biweekly and there is even an occasional symphony concert (4th of July concert) or musical. Start your evening early with dinner at one of the great restaurants on Barton Springs. Bring a blanket and enjoy the show. (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment

Review of Rachel Lynn "What does singer/songwriter Rachel Lynn have in common with jazz vocalist Al Jarreau, novelist Anthony Burgess, and comedian Rodney Dangerfield? Give up? Answer: They all began their respective careers around age 30. This makes them what some might term ‘late bloomers.’ But the amount of time flowers take to open is irrelevant. Rather, more Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Venue review of Cactus Cafe) The Cactus Cafe is a small venue, but it gets some very big names. I have only seen local shows here, but I have never been disappointed. Because it is on the UT campus, parking is very difficult. Fortunately, there are a few busses that go right by. In the past, I have always taken the #1. $0.50 for a ride to a great concert can't be beat. (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Nakia and His Southern Cousins "Every Thursday night at 10 o’clock, West 6th Street ignites with the show-stoppin’, foot-stompin’, heart-poundin’, sweat-pourin’, blue-eyed soul, hot rock & roll of Nakia & His Southern Cousins. You must see this show live to truly experience one of Austin’s Best New Bands (2007 Austin Music Awards), and find out why more Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of KGSR's Blues on the Green Blues on the Green is another great tradition in Austin. It is usually very hot, so bring something cold to drink (or be prepared to buy something from one of the booths at the show). As always, KGSR manages to bring in great talent for this series. The music is not always blues, as suggested by the series name, but it is always good. (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Waterloo Records What's better than a free show and free beer? Just be sure to get there early, space is limited and shows are popular. (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Hill's Cafe I have only been to Hill's Cafe for the KVET Music Series. The music series brings great Texas music to Austin. Definitely worth checking out. Come early for food and stay for a great free show. (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Review of Unplugged at the Grove) I love, love, love going to Unplugged at the Grove. When the Unplugged season starts, I know the summer has arrived. Come early because seats, parking spaces, and good lawn spaces fill up fast. KGSR picks the very best local talent to play in this series and I have never been disappointed with quality of music. (Review of KVET Free Texas Music Series) Once the heart of summer hits, it gets harder and harder for me to recommend outdoor shows, especially those where you can't sit and sprawl out on a blanket with a picnic. However, the few times that I went to the KVET shows at Hill's Cafe, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the show. Come early for some homestyle cookin' and wear more (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
Review of Carousel Lounge Carousel Lounge is always celebrated as a great Austin dive bar. I agree that the location itself is just that. It is located in a slightly seedy part of town. The circus decor is unlike anything else in town. The bartender and the regulars are great. The drinks are easy and cheap. It is a perfect place to come and relax with friends. (Venue review of Oregon Zoo) The Oregon Zoo is the perfect setting for a wonderful summer evening. I came here for a Patty Griffin concert last summer and I can't wait to come back. Come early and enjoy the amazing Oregon Zoo. Bring a picnic and a blanket, sit under the stars and towering trees and enjoy the music. These concerts are great. The bands are usually first class and the atmosphere cannot be beat. The MAX drops you right off outside the Zoo. (2) votes | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Venue review of Waterloo Park) This is where almost all great Austin Festivals take place. Year-round you can enjoy things such as the Hot Sauce Festival, Ice Cream Festival, Don't Mess With Texas Festival, and even a day long celebration of SPAM! Like any outdoor festival space, this park has its upsides and downsides. Parking is easier here than most due to the nearby more (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no | leave a comment
(Venue review of Central Market - Central) Seeing a show at Central Market under the stars is a perfect way to spend a Friday or Saturday night. Bring a few friends, pick up a bottle of wine from the market, and enjoy the wide variety of music Central Market has to offer. Always a great show! Sunday afternoon shows offer a great chance to people watch. And, you can't help but leave happy after seeing kids dancing without a care in the world! Review of Flipnotics - Triangle I love seeing shows at this Flipnotics location! There is no bad seat in the house (although there can be a shortage of seating on Thursdays when Matt the Electrician is playing). The only downside to seeing shows here is that by the end of the night, there isn't much to choose from in the way of snacks. And, there is there is $5 minimum on credit cards.
