(Venue review of Music Millennium) I recently went to my first show at Music Millennium. The space is small and the sets are short. The size of the show is similar to that of a coffee shop. You get to see the artist up-close and personal, which is great (I'm pretty sure Meiko made eye contact with everyone in audience).

I got there earlier than I probably needed to, but it allowed me time to browse the music and secure a perfect viewing spot. Of course, this is still a business and people were shopping before and during the show. They were a nuisance to me and I am pretty sure I was a nuisance to them.
All and all, it is well worth it to see some of your favorite artists for free before they head out to their bigger, more expensive venue. hide (4) votes | Was this any good? yes / no Good No good | leave a comment |
How does someone so small have so much energy? I was dragging when someone encouraged me to see Thao with the Get Down Stay Down. As tired as I was, once she came on stage, I couldn't help but bounce along with her. The energy is contagious! I am glad I was able to see her in a small venue. It won't be long before she will be selling out larger venues across the country. hide (2) votes | Was this any good? yes / no Good No good | leave a comment |
(Venue review of La Tazza Fresca) This is a perfect example of music scene in Austin. In Austin, it seems that any restaurant, cafe, or nearly any other establishment thinks they can put in a small stage and tada - they have themselves a music venue.

Tazza Fresca is truly a coffeehouse. It just happens to be a coffeehouse that allows some local musicians to play in the corner while people study. This is not to say that the music isn't good. It is. I have a few friends who play there from time to time. But aside from the people who know the band, there are very few people who have come to hear the music. Many patrons even keep their iPods on while the show is going.
The indoor space is small, so if you plan to see the band, come on time or the seats could be gone. The service is slow, so expect to wait. But if you know people playing a show there, go and support them and enjoy the intimate setting. hide (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no Good No good | leave a comment |
If you are fortunate enough to have time in the middle of the day to enjoy a noon time concert, you should definitely make your way to Pioneer Square.
Living up to the nickname of "Portland's Living Room," Pioneer Square is the perfect setting for these shows. The people watching is great, and there is plenty of space to sit or dance. moreIf you are fortunate enough to have time in the middle of the day to enjoy a noon time concert, you should definitely make your way to Pioneer Square.

Plus, with all the nearby vendors you can make a lunch date with friends and let the music serve as a perfect backdrop to your conversation.
The organizers seem to have found some popular local talent to fill the stages each day. I highly recommend making your way out to enjoy the show and the Portland summer weather. hide (2) votes | Was this any good? yes / no Good No good | leave a comment |
I have seen two great shows here in the past. We are very lucky to have an opportunity to see good musical theater for free in the park. The Hillside Theater provides a great setup for the show. All of the seating area is on a hill with a good incline, making the stage easy to see from many angles.

Please be considerate and bring a blanket instead of chairs. It can be hard to enjoy the show with a lawn chair obstructing your view!
I remember there being refreshment for sale, but I don't remember what they were. We brought a picnic, which was wonderful.
Enjoy the show and be sure to bring a few dollars to tip the ensemble. hide (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no Good No good | leave a comment |
The best way to spend the 4th of July. I loved seeing the fireworks at Zilker and I am sure they Auditorium Shores overlooking Lady Bird Lake will be even better.
Come early and bring a blanket and a picnic. Pack lots of water. This is Austin, Texas after all.
Parking is sure to be a pain. It looks like there wont be the usual shuttles, so carpool and/or ride the regular bus routes to get there. (1) vote | Was this any good? yes / no Good No good | leave a comment |
