good bands, nice venue
(Venue review of Holocene)
I've seen a few shows at the Holocene. They seem to get some of the best upcoming bands, which is nice. The venue splits a large warehouse into two parts, the lounge and the stage. The lounge area has many seats and comfy chairs spread across a pretty large space, so you can chill out. You can't see the music from here, but a projection of the band more

Beautiful
(Review of Fleet Foxes)
I caught these guys open for the Blitzen Trapper, and was thoroughly impressed. They have some nicely crafted tunes, but what sets them apart is their harmonizing. Their singing sets the tone for the songs.

A good time
(Venue review of Hole in the Wall)
Hole in the Wall is another of those "Austin institutions", and a place you must go to if you still haven't been. They book many of the great local bands playing an assortment of Americana, Rock and Country music, so even if you don't know who is playing beforehand, if you show up, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

SoCo break spot
(Venue review of Guero's Taco Bar)
This is a nice place to stop by and take a break from shopping on South Congress and enjoy a cold refreshement. The shows usually feature a veteran band playing Tex/Mex music on the outdoor stage. You can grab a cold beer or margarita at the bar outside, along with some free chips and salsa. Rest your legs on the many picnic benches settled around the stage and listen to the set.

Excellent
(Venue review of Stubb's Bar-B-Q)
Stubb's outdoor stage is one of my favorite places to watch music in Austin. It's perfect for a band like Wilco where you get that excitement of large crowd, but still be intimate enough wherever you stand. The sound outdoors is usually excellent, and with the standing area being on a slight hill, you can almost always find a place with a good view more

My favorite Austin band
(Review of Leatherbag)
I caught Leatherbag for the first time earlier this year not knowing anything about them, and wow, was I surprised. Became my favorite Austin band instantly.
Leatherbag is led by Randy Reynolds who is equally adept at delivering Dylan-esque folk music that paints vivid pictures of the characters and places of which he sings, and rock-n-rollicking music that'll get your toe-tapping and put a smile on your face in no time.
